Care for Truth trainings with Roma leaders

Five trainings on fake news and misinformation were provided

Within “Care for the Truth” Project in the period May-July 2021, experts of the Bulgarian Safer Internet Centre and their partners from the CEGA Foundation and Roma Lom Foundation, in strict compliance with the anti-epidemic measures, conducted five live training sessions of Roma leaders, activists, mediators and representatives of Roma and pro-Roma civil society organizations on how to recognize and counter fake news, misinformation and media manipulation related to the Roma community.

Two three-day trainings for a group of trainees from Northern Bulgaria were held in Varshets by an expert from ARC Fund (coordinator of the Bulgarian SIC) supported by experts from CEGA Foundation and Roma Lom Foundation. During the first training, conducted from 14 to 16 May, the participants were trained to recognize fake news and anti-Roma misinformation. The second training provided from 25 to 27 June was dedicated to how to counteract to anti-Roma misinformation through various media and social media channels and public events. Another two traininigs on the same topics for a group of trainees from Southern Bulgaria were held from 2 to 4 July in Hisarya and from 18 to 20 July in Bansko. A practical training on how to collaborate with each other to raise awareness on the topic of fake news and misinformation of the people from the communities they work with, designed for both groups of trainees, was also held on 20 July in Bansko.

The “Care for Truth” project is implemented in partnership with CEGA Foundation (project coordinator), CSD (the Center for the Study of Democracy) and Roma Lom Foundation and is co-funded by the Rights, Equality and Citizenship Programme (2014-2020) of the European Union.
