Together for a safer internet for children
The Bulgarian Safer Internet Centre has been protecting children and young people on the Internet since 2005 with the partial financial support of the European programmes “Safer Internet”, “Better Internet for Children” and “Digital Europe”. It is managed by the NGO Parents Association, in consortium with the Bulgarian Family Planning Association (BFPA) and the National Network for Children (NNC).
The main services and activities of the Centre include:
Hotline
Receives and handles reports of child sexual exploitation and cyber crime against children and young people
Advice Line 124 123 (Helpline)
Provides assistance with online issues concerning children. The helpline provides advice by phone, chat and email to children and young people as well as parents, teachers, pedagogical counsellors and school psychologists, social workers and professionals working with children.
Educational activities to raise awareness and skills in a digital environment (Awareness Centre)
They include the development and delivery of specialised training for children, young people, parents, teachers and other professionals, as well as the production and distribution of educational materials and resources aimed at raising public awareness of the risks to children when using the internet, social networks and mobile devices, as well as ways to prevent and seek help in case of a problem.
The Centre is a member of the European network of 30 Insafe Internet Safety Centres and the International Network of Hotlines for Reporting Illegal Online Content with Children INHOPE, which brings together 42 countries. Insafe and INHOPE work together through the network of Safer Internet Centres (SICs) across Europe, which are mostly made up of Hotlines, Helplines and Awareness Centres.
The Centre was established in 2005 and initially managed by the Applied Research and Communications Foundation, in consortium with the Parents Association and the Deconi advertising agency.
The Centre’s team strictly observes all the high standards for working with children established by the United Nations (UN) and other international instruments. The Centre has an internal policy for Privacy Policy, all necessary procedures for operation, and a policy for Prevention and protection from sexual exploitation and abusewhich ensure the safety and welfare of the children we work with.
